Friday Update 2024-03-15

Happy Friday! I released a bugfix for Evertrue Chronicle: Demo Edition on Wednesday. If you tried to take the items from the second floor of the Inn only to have your game crash when you tried to equip them (or anything else), that should be fixed. If you haven’t tried the demo at all yet, no time like the present! Speaking of releases, I expect the next major release to be the final release, with the entire story available to experience! There’s a lot to do before I can put that out there though. Here are my goals for the final release:

  • Finish The Story: This is the big one. There’s about as much story left to write as there is story in the current demo… More actually, since the full version includes several longer cutscenes. Fortunately I’ve already made a great start on this: two of the longer cutscenes are story complete, and I expect that momentum to continue.
  • Finish the Town: The second half of the game introduces a bunch of new dialogue in the town as the story progresses, as well as some new things to make at the blacksmith’s. You also may have noticed that the archivist doesn’t have a lot to do in the demo… I’m hoping to fill that gap in the final game, or possibly in a minor release.
  • New Quests: The second half features a new main quest, as well as the same number of side quests as in the first half. Those quests have to be built and added to the quest log.
  • New Areas: New areas for each of the main characters, complete with events and random encounters! Fortunately most of this is done. I’m excited to show these off, so you might see a screenshot or two from them in future Friday Updates!
  • Game balance: The new areas will come with new, more powerful enemies, which will need to be balanced against the party. This is mostly a matter of time and effort; trial and error. I’ll likely write a bit about game balance in a future Friday Update as well, since I think it’s a fascinating subject.
  • New Skills and Items: The new areas will also boast new ways to get stronger! This one’s a freebie since the work for it is already done, but the new stuff may end up getting tweaked a bit as I balance the latter half of the game.
  • New Updates: Throughout all of this, I’ll continue putting out Friday Updates to keep you up to date on how I’m doing! I’m going to keep the story under wraps until release, so don’t expect to get any hints of what’s to come, but there are other aspects of the game’s development (as noted above) that I’m happy to share.

Wow, that’s a lot! Friday Updates might come every two weeks instead of weekly for a bit as I get going on these new goals, but rest assured I’ll do my best to keep everyone in the loop. Also, please let me know about any bugs you find in the demo right away so I can fix them! Thanks for reading, and I’ll see you again in a week or two!
