Friday Update 2024-02-09


Happy Friday! One of the goals I have for the next demo is giving the townsfolk more things to do. In order to get the first demo released, I gave several of them sets of “tips” to give the player; a solution that feels unsatisfying in retrospect. In addition, collecting remnants from demons feels a little thin: you might get enough to craft some useful charms, but excess remnants languish uselessly in your inventory.

So let’s solve both problems! Instead of offering battle tips, the town healer turns remnants into Totems: key items that increase the number of healing items you enter the cave with. Items are the only way to heal in this game, so that’s a pretty important role! Likewise, the witch no longer has random Cave Facts™ to share; instead she can transmute remnants into skill points, perhaps giving a character enough SP to train that new skill or improve an old one. I wrote new screens for those new features, and I think they turned out alright! Have a look:
